United Madison Christian Givers Leadership Development Cohort for Faith-Based Nonprofit Ministry Leaders

United Madison Christian Givers (UMCG) is launching a new leadership development workshop cohort designed specifically for leaders of faith-based nonprofit ministries in the greater Madison area. This five-session cohort will provide practical training, peer learning, and expert guidance to help strengthen the effectiveness and long-term sustainability of local ministries.

The cohort will meet in person from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship office building, 635 Science Drive, Madison, on the following Thursdays:

• July 23

• August 20

• September 17

• October 22

• November 19

Complimentary coffee, water, and lunch will be provided at each session.

In addition to the monthly workshops, participants will be encouraged to meet between sessions in small peer groups of three to four leaders for 60–90 minutes. These gatherings will provide opportunities to discuss workshop content, share experiences, and support one another in applying new concepts within their ministries.

The cohort curriculum will focus on five essential areas of nonprofit leadership:

• Foundations

• Leadership

• Management

• Development Strategy

• Programs, Products, and Services

 

The first session, Foundations, will begin by exploring the biblical basis for understanding our calling as people created in God's image, with particular attention to how that calling shapes Christian leadership and the role of faith-based organizations in advancing God's Kingdom. This theological foundation will serve as the framework for the practical leadership and organizational development topics explored throughout the remainder of the cohort.

The cohort will be led by Herb Kolbe, who has spent much of his career equipping nonprofit leaders through training, coaching, and organizational development. Selected sessions will also feature Madison-area subject matter experts who will share their specialized knowledge and practical experience.

Through this initiative, UMCG seeks to invest in the health and effectiveness of faith-based nonprofits by equipping ministry leaders with practical tools, proven strategies, and meaningful peer relationships. The goal is to strengthen leadership, organizational management, fundraising capacity, and ministry impact while fostering continued personal and professional growth among participants.
