Become a Mentor Liaison

When you mentor a Christian non-profit leader, you don’t just guide a person—you strengthen every life they serve. Your experience, perspective, and steady encouragement ripple far beyond a single conversation, shaping healthier teams, stronger organizations, and more resilient communities. One leader supported well can impact hundreds—sometimes thousands—of individuals and families. By stepping into mentorship, you multiply your influence and faithfully steward the gifts God has entrusted to you—using them to equip others and extend His impact far beyond what you could accomplish alone.

The nine Christian non-profits (AKA Ministry Partners, or MPs) awarded grants will each be assigned a Mentor Liaison (ML). The Mentor Liaison provides expertise, encouragement, and strategic guidance while serving as a relational bridge between UMCG and the Ministry Partner. Mentor Liaisons must affirm the Apostles’ Creed.

Mentor Liaison Role & Responsibilities:

Commitment

  • Commit to serving as a Mentor Liaison for one year.

  • Dedicate approximately 1–2 hours per month to mentoring engagement, communication, and reporting.

  • Mentors may continue beyond one year, regardless of whether the Ministry Partner receives future grants.

Relationship & Engagement

  • Conduct an initial meeting and tour (as applicable) to understand the Ministry Partner’s mission, vision, programs, and leadership.

  • Seek to understand how UMCG can best support their success.

  • Build a trusted relationship with MP leader(s), meeting at least monthly (in person preferred; virtual acceptable).

  • Offer encouragement, strategic input, and prayer support.

Strategic Support

  • Identify gaps in skills, systems, or resources that may impact the MP’s effectiveness.

  • Consider connections, partnerships, or practical solutions that could strengthen the organization.

  • Inform MPs about relevant UMCG workshops and opportunities.

Grant Process Guidance

  • Notify MPs of upcoming grant deadlines.

  • Assist in answering questions and provide guidance on how potential grant funding can best advance their mission while aligning with UMCG guidelines.

  • If needed, represent the MP during the grant eligibility process.

  • Discuss award decisions with MPs and provide constructive guidance if a grant is not awarded.

  • If awarded, discuss responsible and strategic use of funds.

  • Remind MPs that Grant Outcome Reports are due by year-end or prior to applying for future funding.

Communication & Accountability

  • Submit a brief monthly report to Mentor Chair summarizing key insights, needs, prayer requests, and opportunities. Diane will share relevant updates with the Board and trusted supporters to facilitate additional support.

  • Communicate promptly with Mentor Chair if any concerns arise (e.g., misalignment with UMCG’s mission, questions regarding use of funds, or actions that are not biblical, honest, or reputable).
